On my first morning in Rwanda, this is the view that I woke up to. The picture doesn’t do justice to what I truly see everyday.
Rwanda is green. The evidence is everywhere.
During the first week in Rwanda we stayed in a hotel near the SIT office. The white drape is a mosquito net used by many Rwandans.
This is a picture from the World Learning SIT office and classroom. Here is where we have many of our lessons, lectures, and class discussions.
My home. I take a bus from right outside our gated community to a bus station where I transfer to another that takes me to our SIT office/classroom. It is about an hour every morning and afternoon.
This is my living room where the kids spend a lot of time watching television or playing their Play Station. Here, my brother and his cousin are playing on a Gameboy and my mom’s smartphone.
From left to right: Scott (7), Shilo (4), and Shawn (8).
My host sister, Shilo, and her cousin, Lala, attempted to build a treehouse in our backyard. Lala said, “Shilo, you are my best friend and best friends do things together.”
There is nothing quite like Rwandan sunshine in the middle of winter! This is my backyard.
